Have you seen this: Lord of the Flies Netflix

Netflix released Lord of the Flies from BBC iPlayer and BBC One 2026.  It is based on the 1954 novel of the same name by William Golding.  There have been 3 films and now this TV version of this novel.  The most notable versions are the acclaimed 1963 film (which I have seen many times), the 1975 Filipino adaptation (never heard of this one), the 1990 American film (didn't see it), and the 2026 Netflix/BBC series (just watched).

What's it all about, William Golding’s Lord of the Flies (1954), British schoolboys are stranded after a plane crash on an island....no adults survive....the children descend into madness, savagery and the struggle of power and fear.

This production has these kids  (6 - 13) acting like they have been performing for decades.  They pull off performances with so much intention and drama.  Director Mark Munden masterfully has pulled off incredible performances from the young boys....Everyone has to clear a space on his mantle for all the awards about to come.

But was this based on a real story....kind of....yes...the real Lord of the Flies

Oh did you know there was a real Lord of the Flies....a 1965 incident where six Tongan teenagers were shipwrecked on the uninhabited island of "Ata for 15 months. proving the opposite of William Golding’s pessimistic novel. Unlike the fictional characters, these boys cooperated, maintained a garden, and kept a fire lit, surviving through teamwork and friendship until their rescue.
