We're Going to Florida

Lana Turner, Me, and the DRESS, have been invited to St. Augustine, Florida, for a series of events celebrating Anna Murray Douglass, and her contributions as an Abolitionist,  Mother, Wife, Woman.  There is little known about Anna, but no more, throughout the planning of this project in September 2022, we have coined the phrase, Anna came and got us. We are only second generation of sewers. My Mother and Aunt sewed, but not the Grandmother I knew (she cooked), but I heard tales of the Grandmother I never knew, did sew. She passed away when my Mother was 4. So is it in the DNA…..don’t know, but what I do know is there was power in the needle. Growing up, there was always creativity going on in the house. Making things, was just common place....

This is a public event Optional: Dress in your historic finery Lana Turner from Harlem, wants to recreat a historic day in American history, the wedding of #annamurraydouglass and #frederickdouglass. They were originally married on 36 Lispenard Street, in lower Manhattan September 15,1838.Anna Murray was the first of her siblings born free. She was married to Frederick Douglass for 44 years and they had 5 children. SHE was instrumental in his buying Mr. Douglass’s freedom, borrowing a freedman’s protection certificate from a friend and a sailor’s suit sewn by Anna. See ZCO/Dance Project LIVE with costumes designed by Cassandra Bromfield October 16th, 2021 1:30PM Cafe Biba 101 Kent Ave Williamsburg, Brooklyn ZCO/Dance Project (costumes designed by Cassandra Bromfield) is thrilled to announce their FIRST LIVE IN PERSON DANCE PERFORMANCE of 2021! This performance will also be videotaped & shown at a later date. You can be part of the small audience (limited to 20)  Participate in a Q & A with the dancers after the show.
